Looking for energetic individual with previous experience with persons with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral health. Preference given to individuals with experience in de-escalation techniques, development and engaging persons in both community and center activities. IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: IDD Services Director EMPLOYEE STATUS: Hourly, Non-exempt PURPOSE: Responsible for training clients in areas that will meet their individual goals. AREA OF PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY: The primary responsibility is within the scope of the Waiver Services of COI, Inc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: • Instruct clients on a one-on-one basis or in groups to support clients in daily activities and ensure that such activities are performed to meet individual goals. • Provide feedback on progress verbally and through daily documentation (according to Waiver guidelines). • Ensure that individuals are engaged and supervised at all times. • Maintain client’s confidentiality and uphold the rights of the individuals at all times • Handle training needs, behavior management, and communication according to goal plans. • Schedule and encourage participation in community activities • Assist individuals (male and/or female) with personal hygiene needs as needed. • Demonstrate a respectful and professional and cooperative relationship with clients and their families/caregivers • Prepare the area by setting up work areas, obtaining materials, etc. • Be familiar and knowledgeable with all specifications of products in the departments in which the client/clients work. • Assist in providing a safe, positive, stimulating learning and social environment • Attend any meetings that pertain to the progress of assigned client/clients. • Must be aware of applicable COI safety rules and regulations and comply with these rules and regulations. • Ability to recognize emergency situations and implement appropriate procedures • Show initiative, flexibility, and optimism in an ever changing and challenging environment • Promptly advise immediate supervisor of any problems that may arise in carrying out the above responsibilities. • Drive COI vehicles for work purposes.
MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: • Minimum of one year of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities. (Preferred, but not required) • Must possess skills in written and oral communication. • Ability to work effectively with individuals with I/DD. • Be willing to participate in appropriate in-service training. • Must possess a valid NC driver's license and be approved by COI's insurance carrier. • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, National background check, Social Security number verification with address verification, driver license checks and NC Health Care Registry check. • Must be or become certified in First Aid/CPR/NCI. • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift 75 pounds. • EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED (Accredited Schools)
